Toms River Schools Know How to Be Better Than That

Wear the cape kids Pinebeach and Beachwood Schools, in Tom’s River, New Jersey School District are filled with heroes. It was a pleasure to visit both schools today to present our Hero Assembly to over 1,000 students.

We were graciously received by all staff and students. Everyone, in all grades, promised to be Better Than That! We were thrilled to end our assembly at Pinebeach School with the students and staff chanting, “Wear The Cape! Wear The Cape!”

Thank you, heroes, for understanding the importance of Wearing the Cape and being Better Than That!

Wear The Cape Presents at the NJASECD conference

Our resident character expert, Dr. Philip Brown is the founder and president of the New Jersey Alliance for Social, Emotional and Character Development. For the past ……years, the NJASEC has held a conference at Rider University in Lawrencville, NJ, for anti-bullying coordinators, teachers, administrators, guidance counselors, and parents.

This year, Wear the Cape was chosen to present at the NJASEC conference. It was a privilege to share our mission with our fellow educators.  Those who attended our break out session, “Practical Anti-bullying Strategies” were delighted to learn about the Cape, our “Better Than That™ tagline, and our Hero Strategies directly from our Cape Kids, through our assembly videos.

We received such wonderful feedback from those who in attendance. They said our assembly videos were captivating and motivating. When discussing our Hero Strategies, we were told they were practical and effective.

The Proof Is in the Pudding

When it comes to tackling a giant challenge—say, showing kids across the country that it’s cool to be kind and that good character brings benefits in droves—words of support are HUGE. They’re the fuel to your engine, what you reach for when you need a hand to get back up. But even bigger than words are actions of assistance.

I am so incredibly grateful for the several amazing teachers from Park Middle School in Scotch Plains who have rolled up their sleeves. This awesome crew of five includes some of the key people who helped me launch Wear the Cape and the kidkind foundation almost a year ago and who are still hanging in there with me today!

In addition to their passion and volunteerism, the insight they’ve delivered about very real issues that our children face in schools today has been priceless to me and Wear the Cape’s mission.

I’ve found proof in the pudding. Thank you, my friends.

Choose kind,
Leigh Ann
